Santa Barbara's public transit system is cutting service because of federal funding cuts.
The cuts go into effect on Monday, August 17, and will affect more than a dozen routes, or 3.6% of MTD's service.
The reductions will include routes serving Montecito, Old Town Goleta, the Santa Barbara Mesa area, and Ellwood.
Even with the cuts, the MTD is facing a projected $4.9 million budget shortfall for the current fiscal year. Some funds from federal pandemic assistance are covering part of that gap, but district officials say it will be a problem in the future.
