It turned up last week in Ventura County. Now, there’s word that Santa Barbara County has its first confirmed measles case in years.
Santa Barbara County Public Health officials say they verified a positive measles case Monday night. They aren't saying where it was found in the county.
County officials say the case was linked to someone who had been traveling internationally. It’s the first documented case in Santa Barbara County since 2019.
Measles poses a serious health concern because it can be transmitted easily, and is highly contagious for those who are unvaccinated. It poses a major danger for infants under a year old because they are too young to be vaccinated, as well as for people with weakened immune systems.
Ventura County Public health officials announced last week that the county had its first documented case since 2017. It was also linked to someone who had been recently traveling outside of the country.
