The Southern California bald eagle that became a media star because of its presence on livestreams has died in Ventura County.
Jackie died Monday at the Ojai Raptor Center. She had been in intensive care there for three weeks.
Jackie was taken there by biologists after a confrontation in July with some other bald eagles. Despite testing for things like cancer and food poisoning, the team was unable to pinpoint the exact cause of her illness. Her condition deteriorated during the last few days.
The Raptor Center issued a statement saying the care team is heartbroken, and that it was an extraordinary privilege to care for her.
Jackie and her partner Shadow became stars as people watched them raise their eaglets in a nest near Big Bear via a livestream camera.
Biologists think Jackie was about 14 years old. Bald eagles typically live to be 20 to 25 years old.
