District Attoney John Savrnoch said the actions should anger and scare everyone who belives in justice.

Santa Barbara County’s District Attorney has condemned this week’s immigration raids in Carpinteria and Camarillo, saying the actions should anger and scare everyone who believes in justice.

In a written statement, DA John Savrnoch said the raids can rightfully be seen as an attempt to fulfill some xenophobic quota, at the expense of some hard-working immigrants who have become a part of our society.

Savrnoch said political expediency, bias, racism, and vindictiveness must never be the foundation of official government actions.

He said he's concerned the raids will have a chilling effect on immigrants. The DA worries they will be afraid to seek county assistance, like medical or mental health care, or help if they become crime victims.
