Concerns about increased brush fire danger in Santa Barbara County have prompted some precautionary public safety power shutoffs and some warnings.
Southern California Edison has made shutoffs in the San Marcos Pass area because of concerns about heat and wind, which have led to a spike in the wildfire threat. More than 900 customers have been affected.
Another 10,600 customers in Santa Barbara County, including those on the Gaviota Coast, Goleta, Santa Barbara, and Montecito, have been notified that they could be impacted.
The utility company uses the shutoffs as precautions against power lines triggering wildfires during high-risk fire periods.
The heat is expected to ease in the next few days.
