Prosecutors say surveillance video shows the teens attacked the elderly man, and then returned twice to attack him again.

Two teens have been charged with murder in the killing of an elderly Oxnard man who was beaten to death on the steps of a church.

On the night of June 4, Davy Glen Pichel was sitting on the ground next to the door of St. Anthony’s Church in Oxnard. The 66-year-old man’s wheelchair was next to him.

Two teens, one 14 and one 15, approached Pichel. Detectives say the church’s surveillance camera showed the teens beating and stomping on him.

The camera showed them walking away, but then they returned to resume the attack. Investigators say the teens then launched a third round of attacks before fleeing the scene.

A church volunteer found Pichel on the ground the next morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teens are being held at the county’s juvenile facility. Their arraignment is set for June 24.
