Group holding day long event in Santa Barbara Sunday. Plans to be announced for camapign to help save Southern California Steelhead.

A Santa Barbara County fishing club is holding an event this weekend to launch an effort to save an endangered species of fish. It’s part of a day long series of fish and fishing related events.

The new campaign is to help save endangered Southern California Steelhead.

“We’ve decided to take a long term view of something that we think is very important, and that’s saving a fish that’s essentially going extinct,” said John Grace, with the Southern California Flyfishers.

He talked about what they have planned for Santa Barbara’s Lobero Theater Sunday.

“In the morning, there’s going to be a yard sale for all of us old timers that have given our valuable gear to a donation for people who want to learn the sport,” said Grace. “Midday is going to be the Save the Santa Barbara Steelhead Campaign, which is going to be a town hall with seven or eight real experts in the area. And, in the evening, there’s going to be a fly fishing film tour.”

Grace says during the event, they’ll talk about plans to remove a barrier from the Santa Ynez Valley’s Zaca Creek to restore some steelhead. Get event information here.
