Caltrans officials say a mudslide may keep Highway 150 between Santa Paula and Ojai closed until May

Caltrans

Motorists have to use Highway 126-Highway 101-Highway 33 to get between the communties, adding miles to the trip.

Caltrans officials now say a key section of a state highway in Ventura County closed by a major mudslide last month could remain closed until May.

A more than 150 foot wide mudslide is covering a section of Highway 150 north of Santa Paula. The slide is in the Bridge Road area.

It's causing a big issue for some commuters and area residents, as there are no roads in the area which could provide a detour. People trying to travel between Santa Paula and Ojai need to use Highway 126, Highway 101, and Highway 23.

Caltrans official say they hope to have at least one lane of the two lane road open by the end of May. But, they say weather will play a key role in the effort. They're also looking at the possibility of creating a temporary detour for pedestrians.
