Oxnard Police say man was armed with knife, and ignored officer's commands.

A man seriously wounded in an officer-involved shooting in the Tri-Counties has died.

The incident happened early Friday morning, in Oxnard. Oxnard firefighters were called to a building on East Seventh Street by reports of a man hallucinating.

Firefighters called police when they saw he had a knife, and was cutting himself. Michael Owens was in a second floor bathroom of the building. Police say the 24-year-old man emerged with a knife. They say Owens ignored an officer’s commands, and was shot.

Owens died at a hospital Saturday afternoon. As is routine in incidents of this type, the officer is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. Oxnard Police say they will make the body-cam video of the incident available to the public.
