Two others safely escape flames.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of an early morning house fire in Santa Barbara County which left a man critically injured.

The blaze was reported at around 3:40 a.m. Monday morning on the 500 block of Halkirk Street. It's near Turnpike Road, in an unincorporated part of the county between Santa Barbara and Goleta.

Two women escaped from the burning home. Firefighters went inside and pulled a man out of the burning structure. They were able to knock the fire down in about a half hour.
