SpaceX set to launch satellite carrier into orbit from Vandenberg Space Force Base Thursday night, with payload of 51 small satellites

There could be some late-night excitement on the Central Coast.

SpaceX is planning to launch a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base Thursday night, carrying a payload of more than 50 small satellites into orbit. The launch is set for 11:47 p.m.

it was originally set for Tuesday night, but the launch team pushed it back because of weather concerns, and also to allow some additional preflight checks.

Plans call for the reusable first stage rocket to land back at the base, so people in the Tri-Counties could be hearing sonic booms at around midnight.

The rocket is carrying a small satellite transport unit, which is set to deploy 51 small satellites into orbit.
