Board moves 3-2 to end 20 year old ordinance.

It didn’t come as a surprise, but it did come amid a lot of objections from the public. Ventura County Supervisors voted 3-to-2 to give final approval to a controversial proposal to repeal the county’s campaign financial reform ordinance.

The two decade old ordinance set reporting requirements, and individual contribution limits on campaigns for county offices.

County Supervisors Jeff Gorell and Janice Parvin contended the county ordinance was no longer needed, with new state election laws in place. They said having county regulations was redundant, and confusing.

The change drew strong public opposition, with some people noting the change lifts campaign contribution limits from individuals from $750 to $5500. Supervisors gave preliminary approval to the change earlier this month, and made it final following a public hearing Tuesday.
