It was a potentially dangerous situation on a Tri-Counties high school campus. A student was arrested after a pistol and ammunition were found in his backpack.

It happened Friday at Santa Paula High school, but news of the incident was just released. There were reports on social media that a student might be in possession of a gun on campus.

The 16-year-old student was located in a classroom. With the help of school staff and Santa Paula Police, he was taken into custody without incident. Officers searched his backpack, and say they discovered a pistol, ammunition, and an ammunition magazine.

There’s no word on why the student brought the weapon to school. Parents were notified about what had happened on campus. The teen was arrested for possession of a handgun, and taken to the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center.
