Up, up and away! SpaceX successfully launches rocket from Central Coast
It was a spectacular sight.
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket took off from the Central Coast Friday afternoon, lifting 52 small communications satellites into orbit.
The 12:26 p.m. launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base was visible throughout the region. The reusable first stage booster successfully landed on a barge in the ocean off of Baja California.
The launch was one in a series to add to a orbital network of small communications satellites to improve internet service to underserved parts of the world.
