Two critically injured in confrontation between groups in Santa Barbara

It happened on popular area of State Street in downtown Santa Barbara.

Detectives are trying to figure out what led to an early-morning confrontation between two groups in Santa Barbara which sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries.

It happened just after 3 a.m. Sunday, on the 500 block of State Street. Officers responding to reports of a fight found a man with stab wounds on Ortega Street, and a man with stab wounds on Cota Street.

They are both reported to be in critical, but stable condition.

There's no word on whether the confrontation was gang related.
