It lit up the skies over the Central Coast.

The Air Force test launched a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile from Vandenberg Space Force Base Thursday night. With mostly clear skies in the Tri-Counties, the 11:01 p.m. launch was visible for hundreds of miles.

It's the latest in an ongoing series of test launches to check the readiness of the missiles, and flight teams. Air Force officials say the missile successfully deployed a dummy payload more than 4,000 miles away, in a test range in the South Pacific.
