Health officials have issued a warning about stomach flu popping up in Santa Barbara County

Uptick noted in Norovirus cases.

Beware of stomach flu! That's a new warning from Santa Barbara County Public Health officials, after the region has seen an increase in cases.

Norovirus is the most common cause of stomach flu, and it can cause abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea.

It spreads easily from person to person, and can be contracted by touching items which have become contaminated. Contaminated surfaces should be cleaned with bleach.

And, here's an interesting bit of information about the virus. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers won't stop the virus. Experts say the best way to protect yourself is washing your hands frequently, and thoroughly with soap and water.
