Some Ventura County agricultural groups have reached a settlement with Ventura County over concerns about the new general plan, and its potential impacts on the ag industry.

Two sides agree to collaborate on issues which may impact region's ag industry.

Ventura County has reached a settlement in connection with a major lawsuit involving its new general plan.

In 2020, Ventura County Supervisors approved what’s known as the 2040 County General Plan. It serves as a guideline to manage future growth in the county. But, more than a half dozen lawsuits were filed seeking to block certain elements of the plan.

One of the biggest was by the Ventura County Coalition of Labor, Agriculture, and Business, and the Ventura County Agricultural Association.

The two groups were worried that wording with suggestions like planting more trees on agricultural land would be interpreted by staff as mandatory requirements.

Now, there’s word of a settlement which clarifies the language of the plan. It calls for ongoing meetings between the county, and ag leaders to create an ongoing partnership.
