Santa Barbara County firefighters rescue paraglider pilot after crash from mountains above Santa Barbara.

Pilot seriously injured, but expected to recover.

It was an amazing rescue. A paraglider crash landed in the mountains north of Santa Barbara, and had to be rescued by helicopter.

It happened at around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The pilot went down about 300 feet off of Gibraltar Road.

The 42-year-old man was lifted out of the crash site by a Santa Barbara County Fire Department rescue team, and flown to Cottage Hospital. The man suffered chest and leg injuries, but they are reported to be non-life threatening.
