Another Ventura County community has a new police chief.

Captain Trina Newman will be Ojai’s new top cop. Newman has been with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office for 25 years.

She’s worked in different parts of the agency during her career, including as an investigator, in the Mounted Enforcement unit, and as a watch commander. Newman is taking over the post from Captain Jose Rivera, who was promoted to Assistant Sheriff.

The County Sheriff’s Office has contracts to provide law enforcement services to some cities in the county, including Ojai, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks and Fillmore. Earlier this month, Moorpark and Fillmore also got new chiefs due to promotions in the agency.
