Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara will reopen January 22.

A Tri-Counties art museum which closed last year as a result of the financial impacts of the pandemic is reopening.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara was founded in the 1970’s. Artists and art supporters sought to create a space dedicated to contemporary art.

It found a permanent home in Santa Barbara’s Paseo Nuevo shopping center. But, it closed last year because of money. Now, its Board of Trustees has assembled a revamped board to try to carry on the vision.

It will reopen with an open house from noon to 4 p.m. this Sunday. Then, it will operate Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. with a volunteer staff. The plan is to hire a new professional staff.
