It’s a favored location for hikers, backpackers and campers.

The recent wet weather has had an impact not only on our homes and roads (and our transmitter!) but also on the places we hike and camp.

Los Padres National Forest has been closed for 60 days following the recent storms. In fact, since just September, the forest received in excess of its expected annual rainfall.

"In an abundance of safety, we are asking that visitors prolong their wait in coming to the forest so that we have a chance to dry out and get a fuller assessment of the storm damage," explained Andrew Madsen from the Los Padres National Forest.

Madsen said that hiking and camping won’t be safe in the area for some time.

"Entire campsites have been washed away," he told KCLU. "Roads have been turned into rivers or gorges and trails. We haven't even begun to asses the impact to trails throughout the forest."
