Mandatory evacuations now in place for parts of Santa Barbara County as a result of massive storm

The order now includes all of Montecito, Toro Canyon, Sycamore Canyon, and Padaro Lane

Heavy rainfall has prompted Santa Barbara County to issue mandatory evacuation orders Monday afternoon for parts of the South Coast. People in the Montecito, Toro Canyon, Sycamore Canyon and Padaro Lane areas have been told to leave immediately. Many of the evacuations apply to areas impacted by the 2017 Thomas Fire.

Shelter in place orders have been issued for Cave and Alisal brush fire burn areas. People are being told to go to the innermost rooms of their homes or high ground. Officials say do not attempt to leave, because many of the mountain roads in those burn areas have been damaged by debris flows. People who have already evacuated should remain out of the area.

All of the campgrounds from the Rincon to Gaviota have also been closed, and evacuated.

Numerous roads have been affected by flooding, and debris, leading to dozens of accidents. The heavy rain disrupted operations at Santa Barbara Airport, with numerous flight delays.
