The Cal Poly Universities Rose Parade Float, "Road to Reclamation," in the 2023 parade on January 2.

It's the 74th year there has been a Cal Poly float in the iconic parade.

It was a big day Monday for students from a Central Coast university, as a Cal Poly float appeared in the Rose Parade for the 74th time.

The joint project by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly Pomona was called “Road to Reclamation.”

It featured a scene from the floor of a forest, with a giant log, animated snails and huge mushrooms.

The float was seen by a million people around the world. It also received the parade’s Extraordinaire Award, which recognizes the parade’s most extraordinary float. It’s the second time the universities have received that award for one of their joint float projects for the iconic parade in Pasadena.
