The parade will center around the concept of "Roots."

Wednesday marks the Winter Solstice, officially kicking off winter.

But, some people in the Tri-Counties are already looking six months ahead, to the start of Summer Solstice. Organizers of Santa Barbara’s Summer Solstice Celebration have announced the theme of the 2023 event. It includes a huge parade in downtown Santa Barbara, as well as a festival in the city’s Alameda Park.

The theme is “Roots.” But, in true Solstice tradition, it will be up to people taking part in next year’s parade to define exactly what that means. Organizers say it could be cultural or historical roots, or even the roots of plants.

The Solstice parade, and celebration usually attracts about 100,000 participants. In 2023, they will take place the weekend of June 23 and 24.
