Six people had to be rescued Thursday morning from a fishing boat which ran aground in the Channel Islands.

Six people rescued.

It was a rough start to the day Thursday for some people on board a fishing boat in the Channel Islands, after it ran aground and they had to be rescued.

It happened at around 2 a.m., at Chinese Harbor off of Santa Cruz Island.

After the Speranza Marie put out a distress call, a nearby fishing boat reached the scene first and rescued the six people on board. No injuries were reported.

The damaged boat leaked some diesel fuel into the ocean. Cleanup crews worked to recover as much of the spilled fuel as possible.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
