A South Coast city has fired its City Attorney.

Meeting in a special closed session, the Santa Barbara City Council voted to terminate the employment of Ariel Calonne.

He’s been on paid administrative leave since July, following an altercation with another attorney.

He’s had a long career in municipal government. Calonne has been Santa Barbara’s City Attorney since 2014. He served as Ventura’s City Attorney from 2007 to 2014, and before that had similar posts in Palo Alto and Boulder, Colorado.
