A head on crash killed two people, and seriously injured a third on the Central Coast early Friday morning.

Vehicles exploded into flames after collision on Highway 1 west of Highway 101.

A tragic head-on collision left two people dead, and a third seriously injured on the Central Coast.

It happened at around 4 a.m. Friday, on Highway 1 just west of Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County. CHP officers say a southbound vehicle was trying to pass someone. The driver went into the northbound lane, hitting an oncoming car.

Both vehicles caught on fire. The two young woman in the car which was hit died. The driver of the vehicle which was on the wrong side of Highway 1 was seriously injured.

The CHP is still investigating the circumstances of the accident, including whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
