A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying a payload of communications satellites took off from the Central Coast Wednesday afternoon. Cloud cover obscured the rocket liftoff for parts of the Tri-Counties, but people in some areas saw it.
The Falcon 9 rocket took off at 4:10 p.m. from Vandenberg Space Force Base. The rocket carried more than 50 Starlink satellites into orbit, adding to a network providing internet service to underserved parts of the world.
It was a busy day for the Southern California based company. Wednesday morning, SpaceX launched a rocket from Florida carrying four astronauts to the International Space Station.
