Ventura County Supervisor doing double duty in wake of death of fellow board member

Matt LaVere to temporarily represent both his First District as well as the Fifth District.

A Ventura County supervisor will do double duty in the wake of the death of one of his colleagues.

Supervisor Matt LaVere represents the county’s Ventura-based First District.

But, supervisors decided this week in the wake of the death of Fifth District Supervisor Carmen Ramirez, he’ll also temporarily represent her constituents. Ramirez died August 12, after being hit by a SUV in Oxnard.

Governor Gavin Newsom will appoint someone to fill the remainder of the late supervisor’s term, but there’s no word on how long it will take for him to act.

LaVere will work with Fifth District staff to insure in the interim, the people in the district have someone representing them on county issues. However, he will still only have one vote on Board of Supervisors decisions.
