Four people have been arrested in connection with a drug smuggling operation at the Ventura County Jail.

Investigators say drugs were in mail sent to jail.

Investigators say they’ve arrested four people in connection with what they say was a sophisticated operation which was smuggling drugs into the Ventura County Jail.

Beginning in June, mailroom clerks intercepted a number of pieces of mail headed to inmates which contained drugs.

Detectives say they discovered two inmates were orchestrating the operation in conjunction with two people on the outside. Inmates Carlos Barragan and Peter Robledo are facing charges which include conspiracy, and bringing drugs into a jail.

All mail sent to the jail is routinely checked for contraband.
