Funding includes more than $20 million to replace ranch buildings destroyed by 2020 wildfire.

A Central Coast university is receiving nearly $40 million from the state for its food, forestry, and agricultural programs.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is getting more than $20 million to rebuild its Swanton Pacific Ranch, in Santa Cruz County. The ranch was almost completely destroyed by a 2020 wildfire.

In addition to replacing buildings, the one-time state funding will allow the addition of a student education center. The 3200 acre ranch gives students a place to learn state of the art agricultural techniques.

Cal Poly also received $18.75 million for its university farm programs, which include things like sustainable food production and drought resilience.
