The package of federal gun safety laws signed by the President over the weekend includes one backed by a Tri-Counties congressman.
The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act includes expansion of what are known as “red flag” laws. The laws enable authorities to take guns away from people deemed to pose a threat to themselves, or others. It also allows restrictions on the sales of guns to at-risk individuals.
California already has a red flag law, but most states don’t. The legislation would supply funding for assist states in adding the law.
Democratic Congressman Salud Carbajal of Santa Barbara championed the legislation, helping to get it passed by the House of Representatives.
