P-54 was part of ongoing National Park Service studies of mountain lions.

A mountain lion which was part of an ongoing study of the big cats was struck, and killed by a car in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

P-54 was hit on Las Virgenes Road between Piuma Road & Mulholland Highway Friday morning.

The female adult mountain lion is the 29th to be killed by a vehicle in the study area since 2002. Ten of them were actually a part of ongoing studies.

P-54 was about five years old. Her mother was also struck, and killed by a car in the area.
