Firefighters battling brush fire at Santa Barbara County landfill on Gaviota coastline

A brush fire is burning Thursday night on the Gaviota coastline, at the Tajiguas Landfill.

Firefighters hampered by gusty wind in the area.

A brush fire sent up a large plume of smoke Thursday night on the Gaviota coastline.

The fire started just before 6:30 p.m. at the Tajiguas landfill, which is about 25 miles west of Santa Barbara. The blaze was initially reported to be a few acres, with the potential to possibly grow to 50.

The fire is reported to be burning in some mulch at the landfill facility. There's no word of any structures being threatened.

There are no homes in the area.
