A state prison inmate from Santa Barbara County is suspected of killing his cellmate.

Both victim, and man suspected of killing him were convicted murderers.

A Central California jail inmate is dead, and prison officials say a Santa Barbara County man who was his cellmate is suspected of killing him.

Alfredo Valenzuela was found dead in his cell at Kern Valley State Prison in Delano Saturday. There’s no word on the cause of death, but officials say it was a homicide.

The 50-year-old man was serving a life without the possibility of parole sentence for two brutal murders during a burglary.

Prison officials say they think cellmate Noe Herrera was responsible. Herrera was convicted of killing a man, and attacking his own mother. Authorities say he attacked a cellmate while in jail in Santa Barbara County. He also underwent treatment of mental health issues.
