It's been a somber weekend for law enforcement officers, and for the family of a fallen officer from the Central Coast.
The names of 36 officers were added to the California Peace Officers Memorial Foundation's memorial in Sacramento. Among those added was San Luis Obispo Police Department Detective Luca Benedetti. He died in May of 2021, after being fatally wounded while serving a search warrant in San Luis Obispo.
The events included a candlelight vigil Sunday night, and ceremonies on Monday.
Because of the pandemic, this is the first time in more than two years in which ceremonies could be held. The events honor law enforcement officer who died in the line of duty from 2018 to 2021.
