A four mile section of Highway 101 between Ventura and Santa Barbara is being repaved, with an unusual detour involved.

Section of southbound highway 101 will be seperated into two unconnected southbound lanes.

This is the weekend a major change will be taking place on Highway 101 between Ventura and Santa Barbara to accommodate a major repaving project.

Part of the southbound 101 will be temporarily divided into two separate, unconnected lanes to allow the work to take place safely,

Caltrans is repaving about four miles of Highway 101 from Faria Beach to Mussel Shoals. A bypass lane is being installed on the southbound 101 to accommodate the latest phase of the work.

One of the northbound lanes of the highway in the construction zone is going to be used for southbound traffic. Traffic will be routed over the center median. K-rails have been installed to safely separate northbound, and southbound traffic.

It will be completely separated from the other southbound lane for about four miles.

The bypass will be in place until next January. Then, a similar bypass will be installed to allow work on the northbound 101.
