Driver facing manslaughter charge for hit-and-run collision in Ventura County which killed man

An Oxnard man is facing a vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run charges for a 2021 collision which left a 76-year-old man dead.

Oxnard police investigators say driver was speeding when he hit 76-year-old pedestrian.

It started as the investigation of a fatal hit and run collision in Ventura County. Now, investigators say it’s led to an arrest on a manslaughter charge.

On August 27th 2021, Oxnard Police were called to Ventura Road by reports of a hit and run traffic collision. 76-year-old Manuel Ramirez Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver initially fled from the scene, but then returned. Oxnard Police investigator says they eventually determined Anthony Madrigal was speeding when he hit Diaz.

The 20-year-old Oxnard man was arrested this week for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and hit and run involving the death of a person.
