An effort to raise awareness about pedestrian and bicyclist safety led to 21 drivers being cited Tuesday.

Focus of safety operation was to increase awareness about safety.

The latest push to improve safety for bicyclists, and pedestrians on the South Coast has led to 21 drivers being cited.

The Ventura Police Department held safety operations at three spots in the city. They picked locations where there are crosswalks with flashing lights. The drivers were cited for failing to yield to pedestrians.

The idea is to raise awareness in the community that drivers hold a big responsibility in keeping bicyclists and pedestrians safe.

Goleta did a similar operation earlier this month.
