The Calleguas Municipal Water District is telling its customers they will be facing a 30% cut in water supplies as a result of the drought.

Water districts serving hundreds of thousands of customers in Ventura County being told they will be getting 30% less water from major provider because of the drought.

A water district which supplies water to three quarters of Ventura County’s residents says its customers need to immediately reduce water use by 30%.

With limited water sources, the Calleguas Municipal Water District relies heavily on water from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. MWD officials say because of the drought, it will only get about five percent of its annual State Water Project allocation of water.

The end result is that the MWD will be rationing the water that’s available to agencies like Calleguas. The actual amount of the cuts isn’t known yet, but it’s expected to be substantial.

So, Calleguas officials are acting now to call for cuts in water use. The water district supplies water to 19 agencies in Ventura County, which in turn serve communities like Oxnard, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, and Moorpark.
