National Park Service adding third campground on Santa Cruz Island.

Planning is now complete for a new campground in Channel Islands National Park, and it could be built and ready for use by this fall.

The new campground will be near Prisoners Harbor, on Santa Cruz Island.

It will be the island’s third campground, joining the popular Scorpion Canyon campground, and the small backcountry Del Norte campground.

The new campground will be easy to get to, being located about a quarter of a mile from Prisoner’s Harbor. It will have room for about two dozen campers.

The Channel Islands Park Foundation, and The Fund For People in Parks are helping with the $140,000 project. Work will start this summer, with plans calling for it to be ready for use by this fall.
