Pandemic easing on Central, South Coasts but not in time to save 2022 California Strawberry Festival

The 2022 California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard has been cancelled, because organizers say they latest COVID-19 surge didn't easy quickly enough to male necessary preparations.

Oxnard event being cancelled for third year in a row due to COVID-19.

The pandemic surge is easing, but not soon enough to save one of the biggest community events in Ventura County for 2022.

Organizers of Oxnard’s California Strawberry Festival say while COVID numbers have improved, it didn’t happen soon enough to insure they could safely hold the event.

It takes more than six months to plan, and produce the festival, which is held in May. The festival is a major fundraiser for non-profit groups in the community.

The pandemic forced its cancellation in 2020 and 2021. But, organizers say they are already looking ahead to 2023, with special events to relaunch the celebration.
