Iconic Hollywood producer, director dies at Santa Barbara County home

A producer and director responsible for some of Hollywood’s biggest hit comedy movies died over the weekend at his home in Santa Barbara County.

Family members say Ivan Reitman passed away Saturday night at his house in Montecito.

He first big hit came as a producer, with the comedy National Lampoon’s Animal House. He then went on to direct a string of comedy hits which included Meatballs, Stripes, and Ghostbusters.

More than two decades ago, Reitman co-founded The Montecito Picture Company, a production company which did a number of movies. He was also active in a number of charitable projects in Santa Barbara County.

Ivan Reitman was 75 years old.
