Mixed unemployment numbers on Central, South Coasts

California's unemployment continues to drop, but the rate is still among the highest in the nation.

Ventura, San Luis Obispo Counties show drop, while Santa Barbara County's jobless numbers are up.

The latest unemployment numbers for the Central and South Coasts show a mixed picture.

The jobless rate in Ventura County dipped from 4.5% in November to 4.2% in December. San Luis Obispo County also showed a drop, going from 3.6% to 3.5%.

But, Santa Barbara County showed a slight month-to-month increase, moving from 3.9% in November to an even 4% last month.

The statewide unemployment figure continues to drop. It was 7% in November, and dropped to 6.5% in December. But, California’s jobless rate has remained among the highest in the nation for the last year.
