Man gets 35-years-to-life sentence for shocking crime.

A Ventura County man has received a 35-years-to-life prison sentence for fatally shooting his wife in front of the couple’s six children.

Prosecutors say it happened in January of 2017, in the family’s Oxnard home. Oxnard police were called to the house by reports of a domestic disturbance. They arrived to find the children running from the home.

Teresa Ortiz had been shot in the abdomen. She died a short time later. Her husband, Alfredo Ortiz had already fled the scene. The Oxnard man was arrested the next day in Somis.

Prosecutors say the 38-year-old man initially pled not guilty to a first-degree murder charge. But, he later changed it to guilty, setting the stage for his sentencing.
