Santa Barbara Police say Jeep rear-ends motorcycle, throwing cyclist 85 feet.

A motorcyclist is dead, and the driver of an SUV is facing a manslaughter charge following a collision on the South Coast.

It happened just before 2 p.m. Saturday near Ortega Park in Santa Barbara.

Santa Barbara Police investigators say the motorcyclist was driving south on Salsipuedes Street. They say an SUV, also headed south, rear-ended the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was thrown 85 feet. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcycle careened another half block, and smashed into a parked car. The SUV then hit a parked pickup truck.

Officers identified the driver of the SUV as Raul A. Gonzalez of Santa Barbara. They say the 48-year-old man was arrested for felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and felony DUI causing injury or death.

The name of the victim hasn't been released yet.
