A Ventura County man died in his jail cell Thursday. An autopsy and investigation are pending.

Deputies say there is no sign of foul play, but autopsy and investigation pending.

Authorities are investigating the death of a South Coast jail inmate.

Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies say it happened Thursday, at the county’s Pre-Trial Detention Facility. An inmate notified deputies at around 5:30 a.m. that their cellmate was unresponsive.

The jail’s medical staff responded, as did Ventura firefighters and paramedics. But, Jeffrey Michael Barra was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say there were no signs of trauma, or injuries. An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death of the 41-year-old Ventura man.
