Amtrak made major cuts is passenger rail service on the Central and South Coasts due to the pandemic. But, plans have just been announced to not only add back some of what was cut, but to realign the schedule to make it more convenient.
Starting October 25th, Amtrak will add a daily San Diego to San Luis Obispo round trip. And, it’s going to make one of the biggest realignments on the Pacific Surfliner route in years.
Train arrivals and departures will be more evenly spread out through the day. And, the train schedule will be consistent seven days a week, so there won’t be a different weekend schedule. As a result of the changes, many train numbers will change.
The San Diego to San Luis Obispo Surfliner route covers just over 350 miles, with 27 stops in six counties.
