Acreage burned shows slight increase.

Firefighters continue to make big progress towards containment of the massive Alisal brush fire in Santa Barbara County. Containment reached 50% as of Saturday.

There was slight growth on the west side of the fire Friday and early Saturday morning, with an additional 300 acres burned to bring the total to 17,200 acres.

The weather continues to cooperate with firefighting efforts with only slight wind reported. Air tankers and helicopters have been used to help hand crews build fire lines. More than 1700 firefighters have been involved in the battle.

There is a Red Flag Warning in effect for Santa Ana winds in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties though 8 p.m. Saturday. Fortunately, the Santa Anas aren't extending into Santa Barbara County.
